What Should You Do if a Baby Tooth Is Knocked Out?

In most cases, we do not recommend reattaching a knocked out baby tooth because of the risk of infection. Contact us so that we can examine the area and makes sure there is no other damage.

 

What Should You Do if a Permanent Tooth Is Knocked Out?

Gently place the tooth back into its socket after cleaning it with warm water, while making sure to avoid touching the root. If that is not possible, set it in a container of milk and contact us immediately. Time is critical. A tooth has the best chance of being saved when treated within an hour of being knocked out.

 

What Should You Do if a Tooth Is Cracked or Fractured?

If your child’s tooth is chipped or fractured, there’s a good chance we can repair it. Locate any tooth pieces and contact our office right away.

 

What Should You Do if Your Child Has an Abscess?

If an abscess is present, your child may experience severe pain, swollen gums, fever, or a bad taste in the mouth. Call us right away if you suspect an abscess, as the infection, if left untreated, may spread to other areas of the body.

 

What Should You Do About an Injury to the Tongue, Lip, or Cheek?

Place ice on the affected area to help with the swelling. If there is bleeding, apply light but firm pressure. If the bleeding persists, call us immediately.
